Michael Montz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McLin Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Mar. 21, 2025.
Michael "Raymond" Montz, 80, of Maurepas, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on March 19, 2025. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 22, 1944, to the late Claude Montz Jr. and Marion Dugas.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Barbara W. Montz; his children, Shannon (Nora), Michelle (Lee), and Rachelle; and four grandchildren.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; and his son-in-law, Danny.
After graduating from Baton Rouge High School in 1962, Raymond enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served honorably for six years. He completed two tours in Vietnam as a machine gunner. Following his military service, he earned his contractor's license and began building houses and small commercial buildings.
In 2009, while remodeling a judge's chamber at the old Livingston courthouse, Raymond decided to make a career change. He joined the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, where he worked in courthouse security. Until his retirement in 2024, he greeted visitors and helped them find their way, always with a warm smile and a helping hand.
Raymond had a lifelong love for speed, racing boats and motorcycles with his father in his younger years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing from his flatboat, duck hunting, and spending time outside. In his later years, he found joy in peaceful boat rides, turning up some swamp pop music, and cherishing time with his family on the water.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation Monday, March 24, 2025, from 10:30 AM until the funeral service begins at 12:00 PM at Albany Pentecostal Church (30203-30861 N Montpelier Rd, Albany, LA 70711) Following services, Raymond will be laid to rest at Louisiana National Cemetery (303 W Mt Pleasant Zachary Rd, Zachary, LA 70791).
Raymond will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Arrangements have been entrusted to McLin Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclinfuneralhome.com
