Michael C. Morrissey, 74, of Hudson, NH, and Delray Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Mike was born in Worcester, MA, the son of William E. and Evelyn G. (Hudson) Morrissey. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Worcester State College. Mike then began a long and successful career as a sales representative for several companies, including Refco and IDG, before retiring in 2018 from MSC.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years, Cheryl (Gancarz) Morrissey; two daughters, Delia R. Galloni and her husband Jon, and Ali B. Shankle and her husband Scott, both of Auburn, MA; a stepdaughter, Rebecca M. Dearborn and her husband Denton of Weare, NH; and three grandchildren he adored, Ryan, Ellie, and Christopher, who lovingly called him "Papa." He also leaves behind three siblings: Alan W. Morrissey and his wife Shelia of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; Kevin T. Morrissey and his wife Patricia of Boylston, MA; and Kathleen A. Thibodeau and her husband Tom of Seekonk, MA, along with nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two granddaughters, Catherine and Hannah, and a brother, Dennis.
Mike had a huge heart and a kind soul and could strike up a conversation with anyone, often becoming fast friends. He was affectionately nicknamed "The Mayor" for his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Mike was knowledgeable about many topics, including New England sports, and politics, but his favorite subject was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Mike was always involved in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, ensuring he was present for their milestones and achievements. His favorite place in the world, apart from being with his family, was the beaches of Delray Beach, FL—his “happy place.” Mike also loved to travel, enjoying trips to Aruba, Mexico, and other destinations.
The Morrissey family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital for their care, comfort, and compassion during a challenging time.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Monday, December 30, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester.
