Michael Robert Mulherin, 59, of Orange, beloved husband of Beth Ann (Bartha) Mulherin, passed away on January 21, 2026 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born on July 16, 1966 in
Milford, CT to the late Gregory J. and Helen J. (Johnston) Mulherin.
Mike was a devoted family man and lived a life filled with purpose, skill, and heart. A proud member of the Shriners and the Free Masons, he brought the same dedication to his craft as a talented chef, graduating from the Culinary Institute of America and spending more than 20 years in the restaurant world, including as head chef at the Red Barn in Westport and over a decade in Florida running their family-owned restaurant, Wyldewood. Even after leaving the restaurant industry, Mike never stopped being a chef. He proudly continued his craft at home, where he and Beth Ann hosted countless holidays and family gatherings, filling their house with incredible food, laughter, and love. Raised in Orange, Mike's talents reached far beyond the kitchen: he was a lifelong gifted musician who played the bagpipes, saxophone, harmonica, and keyboard, even mastering the keyboard by ear without sheet music. He loved vacationing with his family in the Caribbean, proudly cheered for the Patriots, enjoyed shooting, and never missed the annual St. Patrick's Day pub crawl with his fellow Shriners. Known for his legendary sweet tooth, Mike could easily out-eat the Cookie Monster himself when it came to cookies and desserts. Ever the busybody and fixer, Michael was happiest lending a hand and making things work. Seldom did he need to hire a plumber, electrician, or mechanic. Mike ultimately changed careers to spend more time with those he loved and went on to work for 15 years at Madison Polymeric Engineering so he could be present for his daughters and family, who were always the center of his world.
In addition to his loving wife, Beth Ann, Michael is survived by his daughters, Carlee and Shannon Mulherin; brothers, Timothy Mulherin and his daughter, Caitlin; Gregory Mulherin and his sons, Devin and Justin; and Daniel Mulherin; sister-in-law, Debora Gionta; brother-in-law, Stephen (Debra) Bartha and his children, Jamie and Jesse; countless friends who were truly like family; and his beloved dog, Zilli. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first daughter, Baby Girl Mulherin.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. Interment will be private.
