Michael Thomas Murphy

Michael Thomas Murphy was born in La Junta, Colorado on December 19,1987 to Shane and Jessica Murphy. He passed away in Montrose, Colorado on December 27, 2025. He is survived by his mother Jessica Murphy of Leesburg, Florida, sister Emalyn Heckmaster, and brother in-law Tommy Heckmaster of Montrose. Beyond his immediate family, Michael is survived by many friends near and far, that he made along his life journey. Friends in Rosamond California, Tulsa, Baton Rouge, Montrose, and no doubt many other places.

Michael was a one-of-a-kind wild spirit and had a smile that could light up a room. Michael had a deep passion for rap music and rapping. Music wasn’t just something he listened to, it was how he expressed himself, told stories, and connected with the world around him. Whether he was writing lyrics, freestyling, or sharing his favorite songs; his love for music was unmistakable and unforgettable. To those closest to him, Michael was laughter, as some of the most cherished memories of Michael will be the jokes shared, the non-stop laughter, and the experience of just being together. Michael’s humor, quick wit, and infectious smile will be missed beyond words.

Michael leaves behind family who loves him deeply, and friends who will carry his memory forward. Though Michael’s time with us was far too short, the impact he made upon us will last forever. He will be remembered for his spirit, his creativity, his laughter, and for the love he gave freely. Michael’s voice, both spoken and his freestyle rap; will echo in our hearts always. We have comfort in knowing that Michael is in heaven; strong, healthy, and happy that he is reunited with his father, Shane Michael Murphy and his grandmother Stella Stanlick.

At a later date the family will announce via Facebook, plans for a candle-light vigil in Michael’s honor. Additionally, family will be traveling to Michael’s mother’s home in Florida, where they plan to host a celebration of life and plant a tree in her yard in honor of Michael.
