Michael O'Rourke Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 29, 2025.
Michael John O'Rourke, of Holiday, FL passed away suddenly at home on September 23, 2025 at the age of 64.

Born in Hempstead, NY, he was the third of six children to James P. O'Rourke and Jeanne M. (Breese) O'Rourke LaFlare. He was pre-deceased by his wife Mary Beth (Gurry) O'Rourke and leaves behind his beloved son, Sean O'Rourke of Holiday, FL as well as his siblings and their spouses James & Kelly O'Rourke of Dennis, MA, Mary & Ken Savin of Northport, NY, Kevin & Tori Lynn O'Rourke of Seaford, NY, Patrick & Lisa O'Rourke, of Massapequa, NY and Kathleen & Nick Spiliotis, of Deer Park, NY and ten nephews and nieces: Kerry (Savin) Silhan and Casey (Savin) Hunt, Jake, Shannon, Erin, Connor, Kevin, Caroline, Ellie and Eden O'Rourke – and a large extended family.

A graduate of Massapequa High School, Mike spent most of his life on Long Island, NY before moving with his family to Florida in 2022. He worked most of his career as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers in New York, before moving to Florida where he worked maintaining the Innisbrook Golf Courses.

Michael was the gentle soul of a rambunctious, highly opinionated group of siblings, who always managed a smile and a "Hahya doin'? in his heavy New York accent. He had encyclopedic knowledge of – and loyalty to – the New York Yankees and also loved the NY Giants, Islanders and Knicks. The focus of his world was his wife Mary Beth – especially after she suffered a stroke in 2012 – and his son Sean, who shares his love all the NY sports teams and his sense of humor.

He will be missed by his family and his wide circle of friends.
