Mike Oberender, 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Michael Ray Oberender was born May 10, 1959, in Des Moines, Iowa to Orville and Beverly Oberender. When Mike was born the family lived in Madrid. They later moved to Ankeny and finally a farm outside of Sheldahl where he attended North Polk High School. He immediately went to trade school which kickstarted his career in plumbing.
On August 20, 1982, Mike was united in marriage to Connie Ann Purcell. They were blessed with two daughters, Casey and Christina.
Mike and Connie eventually moved to Huxley where he retired as a Master Plumber from Polk County Heating and Cooling.
Mike enjoyed building model classic cars, boating, fishing, fire pits, and cooking for friends and family. Most of all, he treasured memories made with his wife, daughters, and family.
Mike will be deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Connie; daughters, Casey Oberender, and Christina Long; grandchildren, Jasmine Long, Jessica Long, and Jensen Post; siblings, Dave (Glenda) Oberender, Dan Oberender, Darwin (Diana) Oberender, Debbie Oberender, and Patty Pirtle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Beverly Oberender, sister-in-law, MaryEllen Oberender, and brother-in-law, Tom Pirtle.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Condolences and memories of Mike may be shared with his family in the tributes section of his memorial page.
