Michael Anthony Perez, a dedicated chef and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the age of 49. Born on April 3, 1976, in Augusta, Georgia, Michael spent his early life honing not only his culinary skills but also his passion for teaching and martial arts.
Michael was a proud graduate of several educational institutions, including Brittin Elementary School in Fort Stewart, Georgia, Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Georgia, and Waltrip High School in Houston, Texas. His love for cooking found a perfect outlet during his esteemed career as a chef at Longhorn Steakhouse, where he showcased his talents and shared his culinary creations with a loyal clientele.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael's dedication to teaching children martial arts earned him recognition as a Black Belt Champion in Georgia. His commitment to nurturing young minds and bodies showcased his passion for empowering the next generation.
Michael's loving spirit will continue to resonate through his surviving family members, including his devoted spouse, Anh Smith. He leaves behind his father, Fransico G. Perez, and numerous cherished cousins, including J.R. Perez, Becky Wilkin, Mark Perez, Tin P. Yzaguirra, Elijah Perez, Mary Perez, and Rosalie Perez. Michael is also survived by his beloved pets, Eve and Emma, who held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth E. Barney; grandmother, Martina G. Perez; grandfather, Frank C. Perez; and sister, Deborn M. Perez. Michael's legacy is one of love, strength, and resilience, reminding all who knew him of the importance of family, passion, and dedication. His warm smile and nurturing spirit will be profoundly missed by all whose lives he touched.
