Michael Pierson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home - EFFINGHAM on Jul. 28, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Michael David Pierson, "Mick", passed away at home on Thursday, July 24, 2025 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
His wishes were to be cremated with a funeral mass to be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham, IL. A private burial will be held at a later date. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Janet.
Mick was born and raised in Joliet, IL, and through his work with ComEd, he moved from Joliet to Morris, IL, where he retired in 2004 after over 30 years with the company. It wasn't long before he and Janet relocated to downstate Effingham, IL, but spent many of their retirement years wintering along 30A in the Florida panhandle. Then eventually, they bought a condo in Fountain Hills, AZ, all the while making new winter friends from many different states and walks of life. Anyone who knew Mick knew he was a passionate Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan and his hope this year was to watch another Cubs World Series from the best seat in the house. Take one for the team, Mick!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles (Mickey) and Jeanne (Dolinshek) Pierson; his favorite great-uncle, Bill Pierson; along with many aunts and uncles. He leaves behind his wife of over 45 years, Janet (Jansen) Pierson. Also mourning his passing are his sister, Janet Johnson (husband, Barry) of Windsor, CO; and brothers, Tom (wife, Nancy) of Elwood, IL, Paul (wife, Renee) of Evanston, IL, and Jeff (wife, Lisa) of Joliet, IL. He'll be missed by many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; in addition to many cousins.
His wish was to leave this world without too much hoopla, so in lieu of flowers and gifts, those wishing to memorialize his name may do so by making a donation to Community Support Systems, 618 W. Main Street, Teutopolis, IL 62467, an organization about which he was very passionate – enough so, that he would put on his Santa suit early Christmas morning to visit many local group homes, enjoying handing out candy canes.
Online condolences may be shared at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.
