Michael Pippin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hurley Funeral Home - Petersburg on Feb. 6, 2026.
Michael Jay Pippin, 68, of Petersburg, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. He was born November 12, 1957, to Walter and Alice (nèe Solman) Pippin in Pittsfield, Illinois.

Mike lived a life of courage, faith, and deep love for others. A proud U.S. Marine and retired Captain with the Illinois Secretary of State Police, he often placed himself in harm's way to protect others. Generosity guided his life; he took genuine joy in blessing people, especially when he could do it quietly and anonymously. He felt most at peace outdoors-camping, hunting, hiking, or biking-and had a lifelong love for animals of every kind, though he'd be the first to admit that if he could shoot it, he'd eat it. Mike cherished his wife and three children, loving them fiercely and unconditionally. Above all else, he was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of Berlin Christian Church. Mike lived his faith through both service and compassion. His strength, wisdom, humor, and selfless heart will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Michael is survived by his wife, Cheryl; two daughters, Emily and Katie Pippin; and his sister, Deborah Kemmerer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Andrew Pippin.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 10:00 am at Berlin Christian Church, 2580 S. Wake Rd, New Berlin, Illinois 62670. A private family graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Berlin Christian Church.
