Michael Vincent Polite

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Michael Vincent Polite, also known by his given Native American name of Talks with Spirits. He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He peacefully transitioned at home to eternal rest and gained his wings on September 23, 2024.
Michael was born on September 28, 1949, in Hartford, CT to the late Lawrence Clinton Polite, Sr. and Lillian Theresa Polite. He grew up in Hartford and attended Weaver High School. Excelling in basketball, he earned a full scholarship to Johnson and Wales University where he received his associate's degree. He worked in various positions throughout his life which included construction, carpentry and civil service. However, he spent over 20 years teaching school-aged children at Silva's Youth of Today.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter with a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed educating children about the wilderness, animals and anything that had to do with nature. He also believed in teaching about Native American culture. He created jewelry, beadwork and patchwork. In addition, Michael was an amazing baritone with an exceptional voice. And if you didn't know any better, you would think he was Melvin Franklin from the Temptations. Michael was happiest singing with his brother Larry "Bubby" Polite who sounded like Eddie Kendricks and his cousin Thomas "Chuck" Goode, who sounded like Otis Williams of the Temptations. Together, they were a dynamic harmonic trio.
Family meant everything to Michael as he leaves behind his devoted friend and Mother of his daughter, Gaea Ross of Bloomfield; his daughter, Sunsirae (Morning Star) Polite; grandson, Isaiah (Spirit Hawk) Hellandbrand; granddaughter, Cheyenne (Quiet Dove) Hellandbrand of New Britain; his bonus son, Corey Edwards of New Britain; his great-granddaughter, Kaylani Hellandbrand of New Britain. He also leaves his five siblings, Sandra (Mighty Hawk) Polite of Bloomfield; Janice (Whispering Knowledge) Polite of Bloomfield; Lawrence (Winter Hawk) Polite (Cynthia) of South Windsor; Linda (Gentle Breeze) Polite- Sargent of Bloomfield; Cheryl (Still Waters) Polite-Silva (Manuel) of Manchester; and his 101 year old aunt, Nellie Cohens Wright of Manchester. In addition, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other loved ones.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Silver (Silver Star) Sargent; cousin, Dennis Rose; and aunt, Lucy Greene.
His wisdom, guidance and unconditional love will continue to resonate in the lives of his family and all those fortunate enough to call him "Uncle" or friend with a special emphasis on his personal caretakers, Tanya (Messenger Bird) Alves and Brittany Silva who unconditionally loved and affectionately cared for him over the years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 10-11, with The Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor
