Michael D. Porter, 69 of Salix passed away Monday, November 10, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, December 8, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Table 32 (100 S Virginia St). In true Mike fashion, it'll be a happy hour. Come as you are, share a story, and raise a glass.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to PBS and Wounded Warrior Project, organizations Mike cared about deeply.
Mike was born March 8, 1956, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Robert and Bernice (Blase) Porter. He graduated from East High School and attended Morningside University. He was married to Lynn Pas for 19 years, and together they raised two sons.
Mike spent his career in the oil wholesale business, working for Saunders Oil, Ho Chunk, and Sapp Brothers before retiring in 2023. In retirement, Mike enjoyed smoking and grilling meat, going out for a good meal, snake handling, and free solo rock climbing.
Mike is survived by his sons, Jay (Amanda) Porter of Ankeny and John Porter of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Lillia and Dax; brothers, Richard (Peggy) Porter and Michael Finigan; and sister, Gail. He was preceded in death by his parents.
