Michael D. Powell, Sr., a beloved husband, father, Popee, and friend, passed away on October 24, 2025, at Christus Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana. Born on July 17, 1954, in Zwolle, Louisiana, he exemplified hard work throughout his life, notably running his mobile home moving service that marked him as a dedicated and industrious member of the community.
Mike was a loving family man who dedicated his life to supporting and nurturing his family. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Perritt Powell, his sons, Jax Powell and Zachary Powell, who carry forward his legacy. He took immense joy in being a Popee, leaving behind grandchildren Marshall Powell, Bentley Luman, Aubree Powell, Nathan Powell, Michaela Powell, K. C. Robertson, Maddison Powell, Lily Schultz and Jocelyn Warren, all of whom he adored. He also leaves behind his brother, Louis Maurice Powell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kind spirit and generous heart.
Known for his honest and caring nature, Mike was admired and respected by many for his unwavering commitment to helping those in need. His personality shone brightly as he strived to be the best husband, father, Popee and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael Powell, Jr., and Marty Powell; and a grandson, Matthew Powel who undoubtedly together held a special place in his heart. Mike also joins in eternal rest his parents, Charlie and Eura Matthews Powell, and his siblings, Ed Powell, Sibley Powell, J. C. Powell, Porter Powell, Charles Perry Powell, Franklin Powell, Evelyn Lee, Barbara Scalese, and Brenda Curtis, who together constitute a significant part of his legacy and memory.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life during visitation on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. A service to honor his life will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Blanchard-St. Denis, with Mike Tanner and Henry Hunley officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Cemetery in Bellwood, LA
Michael D. Powell, Sr. will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His enduring impact on his family and friends will resonate for years to come.
