Dear Debbie,
You and MIke have been neighbors for nearly 20 years and we are thankful for the friendship. Mike was the kind of person you were always grateful to live near. He was always there to help-generous with his time, his equipment, and his skills-never asking for anything in return.
Mike showed his love for God´s creation in such beautiful, quiet ways. He cared for so many animals over the years-deer, foxes, squirrels, rabbits, and of course dogs and cats. One story I especially love is the stray cat who wandered into your garage one winter. When the cat wouldn´t come close at first, Mike kept the woodstove going every single day for months so he could stay warm. With patience, food, and care, that cat eventually became "Boo," now your beloved, always-by-your-side companion. That story says so much about Mike´s heart.
Mike always had a treat, ready to go, for any dog that crossed his path. I am so thankful for the love you gave to our Yogi for more than a decade. Yogi loved him very much.
What touched me most was seeing how lovingly Mike cared for you over time and especially over the last year. He was patient, selfless, and devoted-a caregiver any of us would hope to have in our time of need. His love was given in steady, everyday actions. And he even learned how to scramble an egg for you at 75 years old!!
Mike taught me about what it meant to be a loyal soldier. Every year he constructed a memorial in the front yard to remember those killed in service to our country. That became my Memorial Day tradition; to see the display and to reflect on the lives our glorious God has given us. Mike was so proud to be a Marine, and he was the best dang flag flyer I ever knew. His name is engraved at the Veteran´s Park in North Tonawanda.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and compassion that will not be forgotten. He made this world better by being one of the good guys.
With sympathy and love.
