Michael Grindley Raymond, 86 of Hume, VA passed away on December 15, 2025 at his home.

Michael was born on September 20, 1939 in Ohio, a son of the late Robert Eugene Raymond and Esther Riggin Raymond. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Elliott Raymond.

Michael received his undergraduate degree from M. I. T. and his Master's and Doctorate in Solid State Physics from the University of Chicago. He was awarded a Post Doctoral Fellowship at Carnegie Institution of Washington, D. C. after he completed his Doctorate. He worked for ITC Solar Corporation in Warrenton and the US Army. Then he was employed by Vitro Corporation in Rockville, MD, where he worked on NASA contracts, including the Space Station and the Hubbell Telescope. He then worked for the Department of Energy on energy standards.

Michael was an active member of Leeds Episcopal Church having served on the Vestry several times. He loved opera and took voice lessons so he could sing duets with his wife. He was a long-time member of the Leeds church choir. He loved and raised St. Bernard dogs for many years. His last dog was a mixed breed dog and was always at his side, his most treasured companion.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth E. Raymond; his siblings, Anne Soloviev, Carolyn Wilson, William Raymond, David Raymond and Daniel Raymond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 20 at 1:00 PM at Leeds Episcopal Church, 4346 Leeds Manor Road, Markham, VA 22643 with interment in the church cemetery.
