Michael Rogers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brent Taylor Funeral Directors on Mar. 31, 2026.
Michael Wayne Rogers, 79, of Cordova, Tennessee, passed away on March 30, 2026. He was born on March 25, 1947, to Malcolm and Sarah Rogers.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cheryl Turner Rogers; two children, Chris (Leigh Ann) Rogers, Jan (Mike) Cogland; six grandchildren, Sarah Grace (Tucker) Youngblood, Thomas Rogers, Cooper Cogland, Carly (Connor) Frick, Claire (Petrus) Jansen van Rensburg, Carson Cogland; and three great-grandchildren, Judah Frick, Lucy Frick, and Annie Youngblood. He is also survived by his two brothers and their families, Barry Rogers and Allen Rogers.

Mike was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tennessee, where he faithfully served in the Children's Ministry for many years. He also served in the Air National Guard from 1966 to 1972.

From an early age, Mike's father introduced him to the cowboy life, and he fell in love with it. If you knew Mike, you knew about his love for horses. He preferred a saddle to a chair. Known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, they were all on a horse as soon as possible.

Mike created wonderful memories and meaningful connections with his family. Homemade ice cream, grilled burgers, and baked beans, Fourth of July parades, and long trail rides are just a few of the memories he gave so generously. He had his own way of connecting with the youngest among us -giving them fun nicknames, engaging them with playful wit and fun gestures, and always flashing his warm, trademark smile. Despite his tall stature, he made everyone feel at ease with his calm and gentle presence.

He had a servant's heart and was always willing to lend a hand. He spent his life doing what he loved: living for the Lord and enjoying the peace of His creation with family and friends. He is now fully healed and at perfect peace in the presence of the Lord.

His life can be summarized by 1 Thessalonians 4:11–12a:

"Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live."

Ride tall, Papa. You've found your place in God's pasture.
