Michael Roop

Michael Roop, 60, of Humboldt, SD passed away at home under hospice care on December 18, 2025. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the South Dakota Veteran's Cemetery in Sioux Falls. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Michael Roop was born May 20, 1965 to Delbert and Barbara (Houghton) Roop in Traverse City, MI. He graduated from Traverse City Senior High School and went on the join the Marine Corps. Mike served for four years, being honorably discharged as Lance Corporal. He then made his way into the Plumbing and Heating industry, where he worked in many positions, eventually becoming a wholesale manager. This work brought him to South Dakota in 2010. In 2017, Mike met the love of his life, Sara, and they were married on January 23, 2022 in Las Vegas. Mike and Sara had plans to live in Arizona, but his health led them to stay in Humboldt, where Sara lovingly cared for him until his death.

Mike loved hunting and fishing and was very proud of his South Dakota trophies! He will be missed by the guys at Deer Camp USA.

Mike is survived by: his wife, Sara of Humboldt; children, Christopher (Lindsay) Roop and their children, Dean, Janie, and Boone of Kingsley, MI; Amanda Roop of Traverse City, MI; step-daughter, Meagan (Cedric) Lopez of Katy, TX; brother, Jake (Linda) Roop of Traverse City, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the American Cancer Society.
