Michael "Mike" Albert Roubal age 79 of Rice Lake, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Chetek, Wisconsin.
Mike was born in Rice Lake on March 16, 1945, the seventh of seven children, to Irene and Joseph Roubal. He grew up on a dairy farm in Cedar Lake township and attended Loveland Corners rural school. He graduated from Rice Lake High School in1964. He then attended Rice Lake Vocational School and received a certificate in welding in 1969 and a diploma in auto mechanics in 1971. He earned a diploma from Madison Area Technical College in diesel mechanics in 1973.
Mike worked at various welding jobs before joining Chicago Northern Railroad in 1973 as a railroad machinist. In 1991 he began work at Soo Line/Canadian-Pacific Railroad. He worked there until his retirement in 2005. He received numerous safety awards during his career with the railroads and was an excellent welder.
Upon retirement, Mike returned to Rice Lake. Mike was a life member and range founder of the Brill Sportsman's Club and volunteered at St. Theresa's Nursing Home in New Hope, MN. He was a 30-year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) union.
Mike liked to fish and hunt, including bear. One of his favorite things was driving around in the Blue Hills doing what he called "bumming around." He liked a good fish fry and booya feeds. He loved kolaches (Czech pastry) and won a blue ribbon at the Barron County Fair for his kolaches.
He will be remembered as a funny, witty, laid back, casual man who loved to tell stories and spend time in the outdoors.
Mike is survived by a daughter, Porsha Major-Dickison (Josh Dickison), and granddaughter, Alyssa Major-Dickison, of Minneapolis, sister Dorothy Moe (Bob) of Haugen, many nieces and nephews and a few close and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Irene and Joseph Roubal, brothers Eugene (Gene) Roubal, Donald Roubal, Gerald Roubal and sisters Delores Larsen and Bernedette Roubal.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Kilcoyne Memorial Services, 637 North Main Street, Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from 9 - 11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery in Dobie, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Brill Area Sportsman's Club or the Marshfield Medical Center- Rice Lake Home Health and Hospice. The family would like to thank the hospice staff for their exceptional support during Mike's final months and the staff at MeadowBrook at Chetek for taking wonderful care of him during his time there.
