He grew up on the family farm in Ridgeway before attending Ridgeway Elementary School and graduating from Winona Senior High School. After just one week of knowing each other, Michael took his change jar to the bank to buy her a diamond ring. They married on March 23, 1984.

Throughout his life, Mike dedicated over 30 years to Interstate Roofing as an architectural sheet metal foreman. Known for his hard work and toughness, Michael was always determined to achieve his goals and lived by the motto "work hard, play hard." He was a great teacher and mentor in many aspects of life and enjoyed hunting safaris in New Zealand and Africa, with duck hunting being one of his favorite pastimes.

In his retirement, Michael turned his attention to raising special needs foster children and cherished his favorite hunting dog, Reba. He was a loving husband, an amazing dad, and a true force to be reckoned with.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sherry; children, Nikki Ruedy and Richard (Ashley Doerr) Ruedy, and adopted children, Robert Ruedy and Sierra Ruedy, and foster children at home; grandchildren, Arianna Weatherly, Rielynn Ruedy, Benelli Ruedy, Jackson Doerr; mother, Betty Ruedy; mother-in-law, Linda Shanrock; siblings, Wanda (Wayne) Boehmke, Charlie "Deb" (Dean) Kerrigan, Jen (Jeff) Schellhas; brother-in-law, Dennis Shanrock Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his dad, Dick; father-in-law, Dennis Shanrock Sr.; and sister-in-law, Victoria Whited.

His final words to his loving wife were "If I don't see you later, I'll catch you on the other side."
