Michael Seconish Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 23, 2026.
Michael J. Seconish, 83, passed away on January 14, 2026, in Venice, Florida. Born on September 17, 1942, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Mike was the son of Carl and Anna (Mackiewicz) Seconish. He was raised in Harrison, NJ alongside his siblings Ben, Carole, Joan, Michele, and Linda, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and family bonds.

Mike spent his entire career in telecommunications, working for Western Electric and Bell Atlantic before retiring from AT&T. In the early 90s, Mike and his wife, Joanne, moved to Talladega, Alabama. He embraced country living and spent the happiest years of his life on their farm. He raised goats, rabbits, and a menagerie of animals. He adored dogs and gave dozens of dogs a wonderful life at the farm. He also became a huge fan of The University of Alabama's football team, where his daughter, Christine, went to college.

Mike's proudest accomplishments were his two daughters, Christine (Roger) Clyne and Karen Kinlaw, whom he loved fiercely and unconditionally. He was a loving grandfather to his three granddaughters, Emma, Avery, and Emelie, who brought him joy. Mike taught his daughters how to fish, hike, ride bikes, throw a football, love scary movies, make mud pies, and how to tell a good joke. While sometimes a man of few words, he was often the life of the party and he and his mother-in-law, whom he affectionately called, Dottie, loved playing practical jokes with each other.

A Civil War buff with a love of history, Mike also enjoyed coin collecting, reading, amusement parks, board games, especially Monopoly, and cards. A talented carpenter, he built several decks for his family and extended family, leaving behind tangible reminders of his skill and generosity.

In his later years, Mike moved to Venice, Florida, to be closer to his daughter, Christine, and her family. He spent his final years at Convivial Jacaranda Trace, surrounded by a caring community and incredible caregivers. There, Mike became known for his charming daily compliments, warm smiles, and sharp trivia skills. He enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and his daughter, happy hour root beers, and the occasional pinochle game.

Survived by his daughters, son-in-law, granddaughters, sisters Joan and Michele, as well as many loving nephews and nieces, brothers- and sisters-in-laws, Mike will be remembered for his quiet strength, playful spirit, deep love for family, and the joy he brought to those lucky enough to know him.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 at Our Lady of the Angels at 11:00 am in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
