Dear family of Mike: I think of you often, though I do not know you. I met Maureen briefly at Mike's roast at Dakota County. It was the last time I saw Mike. We took pictures with Mike, and we still have a picture of Mike standing with my disabled brother hanging up. Mike helped our family so very much. My brother was in a crisis in 1998. I called Mike, not knowing who he was, and not knowing anything about disability services. I called him crying. He took time out of his busy work day to talk to me until I was calm. He got on his white horse and donned his knight armor and rode off to fight for my brother, to get him what he needed. He was there for our family when we needed help. He did not stop there. He called periodically to see how we were doing. And, if I ran into a roadblock or had a problem, I called him and got the education I needed on how to navigate. He had a philosophy that is rare in the field of disability services. He and Mild Conrath together made such a wonderful advocacy team. He will never be forgotten. I did not know him personally, only as a professional. But, he brought the person he was into his professional life. I hope his family is doing OK, and I wish I could let you know how much your husband and dad meant to us, and I am sure so many other families out there that he helped through the years. He was a teacher, holding a lamp on the path for people, to guide us along the way. Thank you Mike, for being who you were. I hope you are having a great time in heaven. Carol & Tom Coakley, Ken Masterman.

Mike is remembered. I wish he could have stayed with his wife and kids. I wish he could be here to work for the disabled community. Thank you Mike for being a teacher and an advocate. You are missed.

Me and my family think of Mike often. He is missed. It is hard to comprehend that he is really not here anymore. His advocacy for disabled people was incredible. He was a source of education and support to our family. We miss you Mike, and I am so grateful you were in our lives. You were a teacher, and one of those rare humans who holds a lamp to light the path for others. A caring and genuine human being.

Mike came to my mind today. I haven't seen him since 2005. I Googled his name. And came upon his obituary. The accompanying photo is well chosen. He is ill in the photo...but ever carrying the prankster's gleam in his eyes. And love. I am retired and living in Mexico the past 2 years. I'm sorry he didn't have his retirement years to share with his wife, family and all he loved. Dios te bendigan en todos.

Rene and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I loved when my brother John would "bring Mike home." The pictures of Jimmy, Mike and John are fun. What a crazy trio. Mike was not only handsome, but nice too. At church today, I couldn't help but think what a wonderful family you together raised.(Be proud!) Your son Brian, did a wonderful job talking about his father. I hope you will find the love of your family and many friends comforting as you continue "your journey."

Mike was one of the best role models as a great dad for Toby to have while growing up. I will see him on every school basketball court huddled with the guys yelling & cheering. He was the kindest most gentle man in any role husband, father, brother, son. I loved him & his beautiful family & he was such a great man I feel blessed he gave Brian as Tobys friend & an "extra son" for me! My prayers continue for you all. Love Sharon

This past Thanksgiving I kept thinking how grateful I was for having grown up down the street from such an amazing family on Morningside Road. A family that I feel privileged to feel a part of. Mike had a profound impact on my life personally and I am forever thankful for having known him. My heart is heavy and I am so sorry. However my heart is also full knowing that three beautiful faces, Leo, Dick and Amelia were there to greet him. You all have been, and will continue to be in my prayers. I love you all!
