Michael Wayne Sewell Sr., affectionately known as “Mikey D,” a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, and friend. He peacefully gained his wings on September 11, 2025, at the age of 66.
Michael was born on May 1, 1959, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to the late Johnnie and Luella Sewell. He graduated from Buena Vista High School, where he met and later married the love of his life, Diane (Arnold) Sewell. Their union was blessed with four children.
Michael was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of New Life Ministries. He served faithfully in various capacities, including the Security Team and Men’s Choir. His love for his church and community was evident in all he did. He was a proud and dedicated family man, always supporting his children and He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
Michael was a loyal fan of the Detroit Lions and enjoyed sharing that passion with those around him. He worked for over 30 years with General Motors, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 44 years, Diane Sewell; his four sons, Michael (Lisa) Sewell Jr., Anthony (LaToya)Sewell Sr., Marques Sewell Sr., and Jeremy (Nicole) Sewell; a host of bonus sons; one honorary daughter, Starkisha Lenoir; siblings, Johnnie (Betty) Sewell, Martha (Ellis) Maise, Lula (Willie) Pritchett, Gloria Sewell, and Luella Johns; sisters-in-law, Cathy (Herman) Sims, Patricia (Henry) Speight, and Kimberly Arnold; grandchildren, Amaya Weaver, Marques Sewell Jr., Aubrey Sewell, Nevaeh Mayberry, Mia Schultz, Anthony II, Adrianna, MyLeigh, Braylon, Logan, Quinn, Layla, Caleb, and Lauren Sewell; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special childhood friend Tyrone Harris.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Luella Sewell; one sister, Norva Ferguson, and two brothers, Aaron Sewell, and Sam Garain Jr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eligh and Jacqueline Arnold; and other beloved family members. Michael's legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on through all who knew and loved him.
