Michael E. Shadwell

Michael E. Shadwell, 67, of Frankford Township, passed away suddenly at his home on October 23, 2025.
Born in Orange, NJ, on May 2, 1958, to the late Martha (Greco) and William J. Shadwell, Mike was raised in Kinnelon, NJ and graduated from Kinnelon High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After returning from the service, Mike opened his own business known as Garden Truck and Auto Repair in Pompton Plains, NJ. While teaching, Mike went to school to earn his Bachelor's degree (1996) and Master's degree (2002), highlighting his determination and dedication.
As a skilled diesel mechanic, Mike devoted 36 years to teaching at Sussex County Technical School in Sparta, NJ, where he shared his knowledge and passion for the trade, leaving a lasting impact on countless students throughout his career. He was recognized by the NJ Governor's Teacher Recognition Program, and was awarded the Outstanding Teacher reward, and subsequently went on to be recognized by the Sussex County Sheriff's Office for exceptional efforts put forth by him and his class. Mike never stopped working and proudly shared his knowledge with both his students, and the adults to which he taught.
Mike was known for his kind heart, mechanical skill, and love of family. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, scuba diving, spending time with loved ones, and caring for his beloved dogs: Daisy Faye, Harlie Davidson, Rosie Quinn, Oreo, and Mellow.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Cheryl (Bragg) Shadwell, and his loving daughters Mikaela V. Shadwell, Shaelyn R. Shadwell, and Kiara M. Shadwell. Mike is also survived by his siblings: William Shadwell and his wife Pat, Damian Shadwell, Martha Shadwell, Elizabeth Shadwell, Fr. Steven Shadwell, Marianne Russo and her husband Christopher, Christopher Shadwell and his wife Kelly, Genevieve Dickenman and her husband Marc, David Shadwell and his wife Catarina, Peter Shadwell and his wife Kriscelda, Daniel Shadwell and his wife Jennifer, and his sister-in-law Meghan Shadwell; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, James Shadwell.
Mike will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his generosity, humor, and devotion to his family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30th, 2025, 2-8PM, and Friday, October 31st, 2-6PM at the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main Street, Franklin, NJ 07416. A Funeral Mass for Mike will be on Saturday, November 1st, 1:30PM at the St. Thomas the Apostle RC Church in Sandyston. Entombment in the St. Joseph's Mausoleum in Newton will follow.
