Michael J. Shelton, age 55, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in

Michael was born on February 11, 1970, in
Santa Monica, California, to Larry and Suzanne (Hamman) Shelton. He was known to many simply as Mike, and will be remembered for his warmth, positivity, and genuine care for others.
Mike devoted 32 years of service to Grand Haven Area Public Schools, a calling he embraced with heart, humor, and an unwavering focus on students. After earning his master's degree in education, he served in a variety of roles across the district, ultimately as principal of White Pines Intermediate School. A warm-spirited, kind-hearted leader, Mike had a remarkable ability to bring smiles to those around him and to make every student feel seen, valued, and supported. He believed deeply in putting kids first and worked tirelessly to build school communities rooted in belonging, joy, and care.
His impact extended far beyond the walls of the schools he served. Mike's encouragement, positivity, and belief in others left a lasting impression on countless students, staff members, and families. The outpouring of love and gratitude from the Grand Haven community and beyond stands as a testament to the difference he made in the lives of so many.
Above all else, Mike cherished his family. He was deeply loved by them and found his greatest joy in time spent together. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Suzanne Shelton; his children, Cameron (Sara) Shelton and Allison Shelton; and his brothers, Steve Shelton and Tom (Heidi) Shelton. Mike is also remembered by Ally Harder, his loving companion, who shared many meaningful moments and everyday joys with him.
Outside of work, Mike embraced life fully. He enjoyed golfing, sunset walks along the beach, tailgating at University of Michigan games, and playing cards-especially Hearts. Wherever he went, he brought laughter, encouragement, and an infectious positivity that made people feel welcome and at ease.
