Michael Siefert had a profound impact on those around him, and he did so not only with his professional excellence at his trade as an audiologist, but also with his absolute commitment to the patients he served. Michael met my wife Vittoria 40 years ago when she had just turned 5 and had suffered a catastrophic hearing loss in both ears. She was a particularly complicated case and had several misdiagnosis that made recovery difficult. At 5 years old she was told she would likely never hear with anything approximating normal function again. She still remembers with complete clarity the day that she met Mike. His compassion and understanding was something that still remains unparalleled, and his patience and guidance has forever impacted her life. Before I met my wife, I had long taken for granted what a true blessing it was to hear without assistance, and until I met Mike (30 years ago), I had no concept of just how much difference could be made in the shaping of a person's life by someone who could so miraculously return a sense that the world had stolen. Communication is championed as the cornerstone of every society, individual interaction and relationship. 40 years ago Mike gave my wife a gift that has lasted a lifetime. His gift been with her through every stage of her life, from childhood to our spoken vows...to the first cries of each of our children. While the world is certainly a lessor place without Michael Siefert, the lives he has touched over the years leave a legacy that is undeniable. We will always miss him, but feel truly blessed to have known him.
