Michael James Simpson Jr., 35, of Goose Creek, SC, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from a life long battle with Batten's Disease.
Born on November 29, 1988, in North Charleston, SC is a son of Trisha Tappen Simpson and Michael Simpson.
Michael attended the School for the Deaf, Blind and Multi-handicapped in Spartanburg, South Carolina and then graduated from Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner, SC. Michael had a passion for gardening and would plant a seasonal garden every year. He especially enjoyed growing Banana trees and Pineapple plants. Michael volunteered at Cypress Gardens and established their pineapple plant collection. He would often joke that he could garden at all times of the day and night because, "Mom, I'm blind, it's all the same to me." He was a member of Northwood Church and participated in the Royal Rangers. You would often find him at their Pinewood Derby Competitions, praying that his car would win. Michael was an honorary member of the Goose Creek Lions Club. He enjoyed working on cars and attending auto auctions with his father and brother. Michael enjoyed audio books at night with his brother and sister. He also enjoyed listening to his Mom read Harry Potter to him and his siblings. He loved all kinds of music but his favorite was Latin, especially Selena. Michael always wanted to be of service to others and was very generous.
In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by a brother, Andrew of Goose Creek, SC and a sister, Jessica of Goose Creek, SC; a niece, Charlotte Simpson of SC; paternal grandparents, Jesse and Helen Simpson of Saginaw, MI and maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Carolyn Tappen of Summerville, SC.
