Michael Kevin Smith
July 28, 1964 – December 29, 2025
Michael Kevin Smith of
Flowery Branch, GA, passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2025, at the age of 61. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and faithful servant of God. His sudden passing has left an indescribable emptiness in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Born on July 28, 1964, Mike was a man of quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and deep devotion to his family and community. He spent thirty-eight years working in construction with Beers/Skanska, followed by five years with Carroll Daniel. His extensive career reflected not only his strong work ethic and dedication, but also his pride in building things meant to last, much like the countless relationships he nurtured throughout his life. Mike was a generous and charitable man who selflessly helped others without expecting anything in return; he simply believed it was the right thing to do.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Smith; and his sister, Rhonda Mantione.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Jill Smith – his lifelong partner, high school sweetheart, and greatest blessing. Together they built a family grounded in love, faith, and loyalty. He leaves behind his daughter, Heather Schleitwiler and her husband, Robert; his son, Jerry Smith and his wife, Megan; and his son, Eddie Smith and his wife, Jenna. Mike was also a proud and loving grandfather to his granddaughters, Larkin and Lillian Smith, who brought him immeasurable joy.
He is also survived by his mother, Margaret Smith; his brother, Andy Smith and his wife, Jennifer; brother-in-law, Jim Mantione; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish his guidance, humor, dependable nature, and steady presence.
A man of deep faith, Mike provided assistance to Straight Street Ministry and was a devoted Deacon at Crossview Church. His faith was not merely something he spoke about, it was something he lived out daily through his service, humility, and compassion for others.
Mike found joy in life's simple pleasures: cheering on UGA football, deer hunting, golfing, fishing, and coaching baseball, where he passed along lessons in discipline, teamwork, and character to the next generation. He was a mentor, leader, and a role model who exemplified what it truly meant to be a man of principle.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 5, 2026 at Memorial Park South Chapel with interment following at Mount Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Danny Ashworth will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, January 4, 2026 and 11:00 to 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 5, 2026 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossview Church, 1219 Highway 124, Hoschton, GA 30548, in honor of Mike's life, legacy, and faith.
Michael Kevin Smith was a man who showed up faithfully for his family, boldly lived his faith, and gave back generously to his community. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and quiet leadership. Though he will be deeply missed, his example will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
