Michael Lewis Smith

Michael Lewis Smith, born on July 8, 1955, in Hammond, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, following a brief illness, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

Besides his film work, Mike loved fly fishing, coffee, puns, friends, and the occasional game of golf.

Mike is survived by his wife, Susan Barrett Smith; sister, Amanda Smith Short (Kelsey Short), of Baton Rouge; uncle, Newman G. Garon (Jane Odom), of Hammond; sister-in-law, Cate Barrett Long (Rick Long), of Las Vegas; brother-in-law, John W. Barrett (Toni Barrett), of Bahama, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnephews - all very much loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joan Garon Smith and H. Lewis Smith, Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.), of Hammond, and twin brother, Gary L. Smith, of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Our family is most grateful to the attending staff of Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. Their compassion, care, and kindness were extraordinary.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 11:00am to 1:00PM at Jacob Schoen and Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.
