STOW - Michael D. Smith, 85, died February 4, 2026.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on May 15, 1940, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Alaska, and had been employed as an electrician with Youngstown Sheet and Tube (J & L Steel). Michael had also been a volunteer at Ohio Veterans Memorial Park in Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael J. and Claudine N. Smith; his brothers, Charles J., David C., Donald E., and James E. Smith, and sister, Ruth A. Fisher.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maryann (nee Ruschak), and daughters, Debbie (Randy) Dettmer, of Hudson, and Donna Smith, of Richmond, VA, as well as his sisters, Nancy R. and Carol A. Smith, both of Warren.
Michael's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center for the wonderful care Michael received during his time there.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 12 noon, at Redmon Funeral Home, 3633 Darrow Road, Stow 44224, where friends may call from 10 AM, until time of service.
Burial with military honors will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ohio Veterans Memorial Park, P.O. Box 3, 8005 Cleveland Massillon Road, Clinton, OH 44216-8918, or to the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron 44333.
