Michael Glenn Souza, age 76, born on October 21, 1949, in the sun-kissed beauty of
Honolulu, Hawaii, departed this world on February 2, 2026, at the Covered Bridge Health Campus in
Seymour, Indiana. A life woven with laughter, learning, and love.
For over four decades, Michael dedicated himself as an elementary school teacher, crafting a legacy that would ripple through the hearts and minds of countless young learners. Armed with a Master's Degree in English Language Learning from UC Santa Barbara, he approached education not merely as a profession but as an art. With an effervescent spirit and a uniquely goofy sense of humor, he transformed every lesson into a vivid tapestry of understanding, illuminating the path for his students with kindness and patience. His love for teaching transcended conventional boundaries; he genuinely believed that each child could achieve greatness if given the right encouragement and support.
As a soft-spoken gentleman with a brilliant mind, Michael's essence resonated deeply with those fortunate enough to know him. His warm heart and gentle demeanor embodied the very spirit of generosity. He was a man who made the mundane extraordinary, seeing every moment as an opportunity to enlighten and inspire. It was no surprise, then, that his grandchildren were the brightest stars in his universe. Michael would light up in their presence, sharing laughter, stories, and the wisdom he had gathered throughout his life.
Beyond the classroom, Michael's passions flourished in many forms. A fisherman, he found solace in nature's embrace, with a fishing rod in hand and the sounds of water surrounding him. Photography captured the world through his artist's eyes, framing moments of beauty that only he could capture. A lover of chess, he relished the challenge of strategy and competition, always ready to engage in a good match. History captivated him, sparking a relentless curiosity, while the cheers of Kansas City Chiefs games filled his heart with joy for the sport he enjoyed.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his son Mike Souza and his wife Michell, of Chicago, Illinois, and his daughter Amanda Souza, alongside her husband Joe Maloney, of
Seymour, Indiana. His sister, Cecilia Smith, resides in California, weaving into the fabric of his life with memories and shared moments. Six grandchildren-Laurel Maloney, Makenna Souza, Charlotte Maloney, Miles Souza, Emma Maloney, and Maddox Souza.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife of 40 years, Cheryl Lynn Everette Souza, whose companionship was a cornerstone of his life, and his brother, Stephen Souza.
In his departure, Michael Glenn Souza leaves a whisper of warmth-a reminder of the importance of kindness, curiosity, and the impact of a life spent in service to others. His spirit endures in the laughter of his grandchildren, the smiles of his students, and the cherished memories held dear by all who crossed his path. The world is a better place for having known him, and though he has moved on, his legacy will forever inspire those he touched with his gentle spirit and unwavering love.
All funeral services are private and he will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in
