Michael Eugene Sparkman (Spoonbill), 62, of Moberly, MO passed away at his home on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Michael, known to many as Mike before and after his time in the Navy where he was also known as Spoonbill, was born on February 2, 1963 to Robert and Karen Sparkman of Moberly, MO. He joined the United States Navy shortly after his high school graduation. He served proudly from 1982-1986. He was stationed on the USS Merrill (DD-976) where he helped test the first tomahawk missile. After his Navy departure he moved back to Moberly where he settled in to civilian life and married Danielle Kennedy, had children and worked manufacturing jobs over the course of his civilian career.

Mike was a very a loud man whether it be his voice or his personality. He didn't know a stranger. He was willing to help those that were down in their luck. He was a tinkerer and loved to share that with his children and grandchildren.

He always had something to discuss whether you wanted to hear it or not. He loved his grandchildren and dogs, football and his music loud.

He was preceded in death by his mother Karen (Edwards) Sparkman of Moberly, MO; brother Garell Sparkman of Moberly, MO; brother Brent Sparkman of Moberly, MO.

Mike is survived by his father Robert (Bob) Sparkman of Moberly, MO; Son Ryan Sparkman of Moberly, MO and granddaughter Karma Sparkman of Holts Summit, MO ; Jennifer (Casey) Drewery and grandchildren Cameron, Conner, Jenna and Janessa (Netters) of Moberly, MO; Michael (Amanda) Sparkman II and unborn grandson of Columbia, MO; Uncle Butch Edwards of Huston, TX; several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends, and his beloved dog Penny Lane Sparkman.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations go to the Community Kitchen or Moberly Animal Shelter.

Words of comfort and support may be shared with the family at a visitation to be held Tuesday, September 23, 2025, 10:30am - 12:30pm at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel, to be followed by funeral services honoring and celebrating Mr. Sparkman's life at 12:30pm.

Military Honors and committal prayer will take place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery Shelter, Jacksonville.

Burial to follow.
