Michael Wayne Stewart, age 71, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away June 15, 2024. Michael was born on December 20, 1952 to Thelma Ruth and William Holobough Sr.
A native Tennessean, Michael’s career work included convenience store distribution and office supply warehouse management in the Nashville area. Michael Stewart was also a rock star. His music career started in high school as a member of the band Reformation, playing “Sunshine of Your Love” in the talent show. From there, Stew played in various bands such as 4801 and The Noodles, most of the time with longtime friends Rick Furlough, Hal Rice, Jeff Taylor, and Hugo Wright. Mike also spent time as bassist for Roy and the Orbits, playing hits from artists like Roy Orbison and the Traveling Wilburys.
Mike was an accomplished self-taught guitarist from the age of 7. Inspired by Beatlemania, he taught himself how to play acoustic, electric, and bass from watching his favorite artists. His music knowledge was unparalleled. From The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, from Derek and the Dominos to Bad Company, Creedance Clearwater Revival to James Taylor, if you wanted to know the history of his favorite artists, he could provide those details in spades.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father along with siblings Lillian Beatrice Warren, Jamie Ann Swoner, and William Holobough Stewart Junior. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife Deborah Ann Stewart, Grandmother Annie Marie Rush and Father-in-Law John Thomas Miller Senior. Mike was also preceded in death by niece Sherry Ann Warren and nephew Thomas Calvin Warren Junior.
Mike is survived is by his loving children, Shelly Morris (David) and Dwayne Stewart (Lauren); mother-in-law, Elizabeth Miller Sievers; grandchildren, Hannah Michelle Morris, Kaitlin Rose Morris, Allison Grace Morris, Henry Stauffer Stewart, Sully Morris, and Annabelle Morris; brother-in-law, John “Bubba” Miller (Deborah); sister-in-law, Patricia Stewart, numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Hugo Wright, Hal Rice, Rick Furlough, and Mike Klitzing.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Burial with take place at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.
Logan Gregory, Lance Groves, Carl Klitzing, Mike Klitzing, Wesley McGehee, Cory Miller, and Drew Tucker will serve as pallbearers. Rick Furlough, Hal Rice, Mike “Hugo” Wright, John Petit, Shannin Alsup, Gary Wey, Ethan Gregory, and Austin Gregory will serve as honorary pallbearers.
