Michael Francis "Mickey" Stretanski

Dr. Michael Francis "Mickey" Stretanski, D.O., 54, of Sunbury, Ohio, and formerly of Kingston, Pa., passed away on August 2, 2025, after a recent illness.

Born in Kingston on 12/28/1970, he was the son of Michael Louis and Joan (Leggetts) Stretanski. A 1988 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, he went on to earn a B.S. in Biochemistry from Widener University and a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. He completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and Ohio University Hospital.

Dr. Stretanski practiced interventional spine and pain medicine, founding Interventional Spine & Pain Rehabilitation Center in Ohio, and was nationally and internationally certified in pain management and electrodiagnostic medicine. He authored 16 books and more than 100 medical articles and was dedicated to addressing the opioid crisis as a Chemical Dependency Advisor.

A lifelong learner and true Renaissance man, he was also a classically trained musician, pilot, flight instructor, and medical director for EAA Chapter 1629. He volunteered with "Young Eagles," "Active Angels NE," and medical missions abroad. His passions included woodworking, gardening, beekeeping, fishing, and operating his own winery.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Michael and Josephine Leggetts, and Michael and Cecilia Stretanski. Surviving are his parents; brother, Matthew Stretanski and wife Jill, with children Claire and Owen; sister, Kristin DePolo and husband Jeffrey, with children Nicholas and Michael; his godmother Cioci Annie; many beloved cousins, aunts, and uncles; and his faithful dog, Kolney.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, October 4, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Saint Ignatius Church, Kingston, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. A memorial service and pilot flyover will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Sunbury, Ohio on Saturday, October 11 at 11 a.m. Visitation at 10 a.m. A ceremony will take place at the Marysville Airport in Marysville, Ohio later in the afternoon. His family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers,memorial donations may be made to National Public Radio or a charity of your choice.
