Michael ("Mike") Joseph Sumpter, 46, resident of
High Point, NC died September 29, 2025.
Michael was born November 21, 1978 in High Point, a son to Susan McGeogh Sumpter and the late Collis L. Sumpter. As a resident of this area all his life, he primarily worked in security for both High Point Medical Center and Truist Stadium. He also worked in law enforcement for the Thomasville City Police Department. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1997 and had postgraduate studies at Savannah College of Art & Design in GA and GTCC in Jamestown, NC. Michael was a friendly and fun-loving dad, brother, and son who enjoyed connecting with a diverse group of people, and fostering that connection through his humor and wit. He regularly studied Mixed Martial Arts and was an exceptional gamer within the X-BOX community. Music was one of his passions and he enjoyed playing guitar in a band for many years. He especially loved the time spent with his son, Brock, practicing guitar, playing games, and watching movies together. Mike had a special heart for animal pets, both fostering and adopting a number of cats and dogs over the years.
Surviving is his mother, Susan Sumpter of High Point; son, Brock Sumpter of Archdale; his beloved life partner, Sarah Craven of Archdale; brother, Matthew "Matt" Scott Sumpter and wife Laura of Charlotte; and an array of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mike had a special relationship with his aunt, Donna Musselman, who provided a constant source of support and encouragement. In addition to his father, Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Grady A. and Jessie Coffey Sumpter; his maternal grandparents, James E. and Marguerite McGeogh; and a special uncle, Edward A. McGeogh.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 12:30-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, in the Life Tribute Center at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with a private family graveside service to follow that afternoon.
