Michael Leo Sweeney, age 62, of Casey Road, Mohawk, passed away on Tuesday evening, June 6, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.
He was born on April 15, 1961, in Ilion, son of the late Leo and Shirley (Miller) Sweeney and educated in Ilion schools. He was united in marriage with Tina Mary DesGrosielliers on July 28, 1990, in Ilion. Michael worked with Mondelez, Inc. (Nabisco) until 2019 and stopped working due to ill health.
Michael loved to play horseshoes. He enjoyed the outdoors, his land and sitting by the fire. Most of all, he enjoyed being in the presence of his cherished family and friends. He loved sports, enjoyed watching baseball, especially the NY Mets and March madness. Michael was a member of the Ilion Winter Club.
Survivors include his beloved family; his children, Jake Sweeney and Dani Engert of Frankfort, Abigail Sweeney and Austin Green of Mohawk and Mary Sweeney; siblings, Theresa Sweeney of Utica and Jeffrey Sweeney and Cassie of Mohawk; grand-puppies, Finley, Amaretto, Phoenix, Benny, Lola, Ellie (his soul-dog); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and mother-in-law, Katherine DesGrosielliers; sisters in law, Tammy DesGrosielliers and Lisa Robinson and husband Steve. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Pat Sweeney.
Memorial services will be held at a time to be announced. Kindly consider memorial offerings in his name to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
