Michael Dale Todd

Michael Dale Todd was born December 27, 1943. His parents were J.T. and Vernell Elliott Todd. Mike's early years were spent near Middleburg. His parents and Granny Todd loved him very much. Granny remained a part of Mike's life until her passing in 1972. Mike started his educational career at Crowell where his dad was his teacher. Next he attended Lexington City School for two years. After that, he attended Rock Hill for four years then he graduated from Lexington High School in 1961. He attended Bethel College where he majored in education. After that, he received a masters' degree from Memphis State. Mike leaves a sister, Jennifer Bateman (Mark) and nieces and nephews. Mike gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1961 at Pine Grove Baptist Church with J.T. Todd as the pastor and J.V. Reeves was the visiting minister. A few days later a group of about 10 was baptized in the Tennessee River along with Mike. In 1969, Mike served 6 years in the TN National Guard. He worked in the school system for about 40 years with 31 years as principal of Pin Oak School. On July 31, 1970 Mike Todd and Phyllis Duke were married. On June 28, 1972, she gave him the best gift a man could have a healthy baby boy. Their paths have taken many twists and turns, hills and valleys, but it all led to a wonderful life. On the golf course at the Tennessee River, Mike experienced an extremely bad heart attack. Two nurses and a paramedic were at the golf course that day. They performed chest compressions for about 30 minutes. Mike was flown by helicopter to the Jackson hospital where he stayed for several days. He later returned to play golf again at the same course with, Brent, his best friend and golfing partner. A memorial service will be held at Reed's Chapel on Thursday, January 9 at 2PM.
