HOUTZDALE - Michael "Mike" G. Tomchick, 67, of Houtzdale, passed away on Jan. 7, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian surrounded by loved ones after a brief battle with cancer and subsequent complications.

Mike was born on Feb. 14 (Valentine's Day), 1957, in Philipsburg Hospital.

A kind soul, the type who took pleasure in the solace of nature and time spent with his family and friends. He was an outdoor enthusiast who would often venture to his favorite location in the world with the name he deemed "Camp Bliss." His closest friends have also routinely gathered for decades at nearby "Camp No Fish" every spring for good times and better company. Mike was an incredibly gifted mechanic and could fix anything with an engine, a gear head through and through. His other hobbies included amateur gunsmithing, gardening with heirloom seeds, ceramics, and caring for his beloved pets.

Mike was very strong in his spiritual beliefs as a devout Christian of the Baptist faith. Mike attended McPherron C&MA Church in LaJose.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Tomchick, and survived by his mother Annie and stepfather John Dixon, girlfriend Tena Brady, sons Joe and John Tomchick, sister Mary Kay (Greg) Williams and sister Susan (Mike) Adams.

A celebration of life will be held on Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Ramey Firehall. Please feel free to bring photos and fond memories. Donations are also greatly appreciated and can be made at https://gofund.me/5c779590.

Mike was a wonderful coworker and friend. He would help me anytime I needed his help and he would always make me laugh. He would say 8675309 when I would call over to the garage or if he saw me. I will always remember the fun times we had. God Bless to his family.

I was Mikes supervisor at the plant . He was a great teammate to work with, a super nice guy that would give anybody the shirt off of his back. He loved good music and we had many conversations about music and bands that we listened to and went to see in concert. He is missed at the plant and was always welcome to come back in to say hi. My condolences for the family and friends.... He will be missed. RIP Mike you were a good man and a good friend.
