Michael T. Wade, a visionary in the field of aerospace engineering and a beloved family man, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on March 16, 1954, in
Ashland, Kentucky, Michael's early life set the stage for a future filled with innovation, leadership, and the joys of family life.
After an exemplary academic career at Virginia Tech College, Michael went on to make his mark in the world of engineering. He dedicated his professional life to the advancement of military jet engines at Pratt & Whitney, where he was known for his keen project management skills and his pivotal role in testing. Michael's brilliance and dedication propelled him to the pinnacle of his field. His career later transitioned to the development of electrical power plants at General Electric.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was a devoted family man. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his loved ones. His passion for collecting and restoring motorcycles and cars was more than just a hobby. Michael's dream of building a home for his family came to fruition through his vision and craftsmanship, creating a haven filled with love and cherished memories.
Although Michael's life was touched by the sorrow of losing his son Zachary, he remained a pillar of strength and love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, and devotion. His beloved wife, Virginia, sons Allen and Gregory, and his precious granddaughter Salem will carry forward his spirit. Michael is also survived by his sisters, Donna Stier and her husband George, Rebecca Payton and her husband Greg, as well as many nephews and nieces.
A private family memorial will be held later in the spring to honor his life and legacy. Michael's journey was one marked by impressive achievements and profound love, and his memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of those who knew him.
