Michael Welch Obituary
Mike Welch, 82, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, following injuries sustained in a cycling accident in the Flint Hills. He was a retired regional sales manager for SIP Industries.
Charles Michael Welch was born on June 22, 1940, in Denver, CO, the son of Charles Hadley and Alfretta “Freda” Elizabeth (White) Welch.
Mike served in the United States Air Force and was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. He was a very spiritual man and loved his church.
Mike was an amazing man, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved spending time with his family. His truest passion was bicycling with his extended biking family whom he loved very much. He was the life of the party, being ornery and always making everyone around him laugh and smile. He loved to help whomever he could and had the biggest heart and always lived life to the fullest.
He had a special relationship with his daughter, Sonia. Mike was her rock and best friend. He was also very close to his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Mike will be greatly missed but never forgotten, and is now with the good Lord in heaven and at peace.
Survivors include: his daughter, Sonia Luttig of McPherson, KS; son, David Welch of Windom, KS; brother, Kerry David Welch (Pam) of Murray, KY; sister, Patty Kay Welch of Kansas City, MO; two granddaughters, Monica Luttig of McPherson, KS and LaToya Jones (Kris) of Kennewick, WA; seven great-grandchildren, Madden, MaKyna, Mercede, Kynzlie, Madison, Kason, & Morgan; many extended family and friends, including all those in his cycling community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Freda Welch, and a brother, Timothy Welch.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 2, at Countryside Covenant Church with Bishop Michael Milliken officiating. Friends from the cycling community are encouraged to wear their favorite bike jerseys to the service in tribute to Mike.
