Sarah,
Michael and I just learned the news and we are devastated for your loss. Michael was one of my favorite people and I have such fond memories of the four of us in Maui. He was brilliant but humble. Such a wonderful genuinely good person. We are so much better for having had him in our lives. We hope all your wonderful memories together will comfort you and carry you through this very hard time. All our love.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Judge Michael Wellington. As a longtime attorney with the San Diego Superior Court, I had the pleasure of working with him, of admiring his charm, his energy, and his intellect. I was shocked to learn of his death in the most recent issue of my USD Alumni magazine. He was so full of life!

It was my great pleasure to work with Michael when he was in the Attorney General's Office and I was an Orange County prosecutor. The friendship we developed then never faltered.
He was one of the finest legal minds I've ever encountered, and in 25 years on the Court of Appeal, I've encountered a lot of intellectual horsepower. But what made Michael special was not his powerful intellect so much as his incandescent heart. Michael loved life and he loved those who shared it with him. The world is a poorer place without him.

Sarah, I just heard the sad news. I immediately burst into tears. My heart and prayers are with you and your family. Family meant so much to Mike Wellington. He had the gift of making you feel part of his family even if you were a friend or a part of his staff. He was endlessly kind and compassionate. He had a tremendous capacity for compassion and understanding. I will always remember his kindness to me, and yours as well. My heartfelt sympathy.

Mike was kind. When I moved to San Diego in 1973, Mike offered me a place to stay until I found a home. He made a tough transition less so.
Mike was brilliant. He challenged and mentored me in my first trip to the CA Supreme Court - he had the companion case. He was thorough, precise, logical and sometimes maddening. I benefited.
I miss him.

One of Mike´s greatest gifts was the ability to see the world from the perspective of a sage not caught up in the chaos of the moment. Thoughtful, wise and humorous. No wonder he was such a wonderful judge (and friend). I will always see his face and hear his laugh because there are so few people like him. Your memory will endure, Mike. Thank you.

Mike Wellington was an amazing judge and mentor, and I was honored to call him my friend. BEST Judge ever! So many fond memories of him both in and out of the court settings. He, and his wife, Sara, were the best. I enjoyed all of our wonderful lunches and dinners with them to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and special occasions for court and support staff. Judge Michael Wellington will always be special person to me and I am so sad to hear of his passing. He and Sara will always be in my heart, my mind, and my prayers. What wonderful people. May the soul of Michael D. Wellington Rest In Peace.

Dear Sara,
Your husband set the bar for the definition of "Honorable". And, of course, behind every great man there is an even greater woman. I have posted some photos. I hope they make you smile.

Damn, Sara, I just found out. I´m in shock! My deepest condolences to you. I know how happy you made Mike. Let me know if there is anything you need, please. He presided over two of marriages so besides a DAG colleague , a member of the greatest all lawyer rock band in San Diego history, and a wonderful judge, he will always hold a special place in my heart.
