Michael Charles Werning, 52, Overland Park entered into Eternal Life due to cancer, Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his dear family and friends. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2008 at Colonial Congregational Church, 7039 Mission Rd., Prairie Village. Interment will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 23, 2008 from 4-7 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66204. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Touched by Cancer Foundation, 4770 N. Belleview Ave., Suite 201, Kansas City, MO 64114 or Kansas City Hospice, 10100 W. 87th St., Suite 100, Overland Park, Kansas 66212. Michael was born October 25, 1956. He grew up on a farm in Higginsville, MO and graduated from Lafeyette County High School in 1975. He graduated from Central Missouri University with a degree in Business Administration, majoring in finance in 1979. He was a member of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity, active in their chapter program, serving several positions while there. He also participated in their Greek Sports Programs. He later earned a MBA Degree from University of Central, Missouri in 1985. Michael also earned a MBA from the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. Michael was currently Regional President of Country Club Bank, overseeing the development of most of Johnson County and south Jackson County. Michael served the banking community in Kansas City for almost 30 years. Michael enjoyed every day of his working career and will miss his many co- workers and clients that he considered to be dear friends as well as colleagues. Michael held numerous civic and community roles throughout his life. Most recently, he served on the Board of The First Tee Foundation, MOCSA, Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assaults, Shawnee Mission Hospital Foundation Board. Michael was a Past President of the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation. He was a founding member of the Kansas City Metro Special Olympics. He also served as a member of various Chambers of Commerce in Kansas City. He is also an alumni of The Centurians Leadership Program, which is sponsored by The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. Michael was loved and cherished by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Cheryl Osborne; and nephew Jeremy Osborn. Michael was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert E. Davis. Michael is survived by his wife, Marsha of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Tatiana and Craig Stout and his grandchildren, Jackson Charles Stout and Maren Mae Stout, of Blue Springs, MO; parents, Clara and Elmer Werning; sister, Susan Shier and husband Bob and nephew, Blake; mother-in-law, Dorothy A. Davis; brother-in-law, Tracy and Lynn Davis; sister-in-law Claudia and John Streit, nephew John, and niece Amy of Snellville, Georgia. Michael leaves numerous friends, business and civic associates. His life was made richer by each of those relationships. He was a member of Colonial Church of Prairie Village. Michael was an avid golfer, and a member of Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club. He will cherish his memories of Saturday morning golf and his annual boy's golf trips to Hilton Head Island. He will miss his vast array of "golf buddies". Michael loved to travel, and with his wife Marsha, had many special memories of numerous destinations. A special thank you to our angels, Maren Paoletti and Lynn Hathaway- Davis, Kansas City Cancer Center (Central Location) for their guidance, love, and support throughout his diagnosis and treatment.
