Mr. Michael Terry West, 74, of Roebuck, South Carolina, passed from this life into Glory, peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints” Psalm 116:15
Michael was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on May 2, 1950. He was the son of the late Thomas Harvey West and the late Estelle Phillips West.
He had a deep and abiding affection for the Lord Jesus Christ and found his greatest joy in serving and teaching others. He was a devoted member of Mount Calvary Presbyterian Church where he served as a teacher through the Tyger River Prison ministry and the Monte Calvario Hispanic Children’s ministry; whom he loved dearly. His service extended into the community, where he volunteered for 18 years with Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, delivering meals to local seniors. He also mentored many youth through church youth classes and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate.
Michael was an avid hiker who enjoyed the beauty and wonder of God’s creation through nature. He loved sports and was awarded “Most Valuable Player” in basketball at USC Upstate, where he remained a dedicated fan of the Carolina Gamecocks. He found joy in art, history, and preserving the culture, values, and artifacts of previous generations.
Michael was a skilled computer software developer and worked at Draper Corporation, Celanese Corporation, and Cryovac Sealed Air Corporation for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Julie West, and two daughters; Tracy West Williams (Jonathan) of Simpsonville and Bonnie West Lynch (Adam) of North Charleston, five grandchildren; Dax Lynch, Briley Williams, Indie Lynch, Westelin Williams, and Eleanor “Ella” Williams; and a brother, Norman West (Carol) of Taylors.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at The J.M. Dunbar Funeral Home, 690 Southport Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Mount Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1399 Walnut Grove Rd, Roebuck, SC 29376 with the Rev. Richard Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304.
