Michael Scott Wolfenbarger, 75, of La Porte, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at St. Joseph Medical center in South Bend.
He was born on January 7, 1950, in La Porte, to Alfred and Pearl Wolfenbarger.
On September 4, 1968, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, he married Vickie Adams, who survives.
Michael worked for several years at Alis Chalmers as a machinist before going into Union Local 81 construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and everything to do with being outdoors. Michael also enjoyed building things and traveling. He had a generous heart and was always willing to help anyone. Michael was a man who thought outside of the box and was an excellent teacher on fixing things. Michael was an exceptional father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband and friend. He never gave up on anything until he found an answer. Most of all, Michael loved his family dearly and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving are his children, Brian (Lori) Wolfenbarger, Michael (Emily) Wolfenbarger, and Brooke (Jeff) Thatcher; grandchildren, Logan (McKenzie) Wolfenbarger, Lauren (Cole) Decker, Ashley (Travis) Knight, Kristina Ferguson, Damian (Brandy) Wolfenbarger, Zeth (Cynthia) Wolfenbarger, Avery Morris, Alivia Morris, Kaden Mohler, Addison Daughtery, and Cory Thatcher; great grandchildren, Carson, Krew, Callen, Cameron. Aubrey, Oliver, Emberlynn, Kolton, Paris, and K.C. Lee; brothers, Theo and Edward Wolfenbarger;
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alfred Wolfenbarger, Robert Wolfenbarger, Richard Wolfenbarger, and Donald Wolfenbarger; sisters, Betty Knifle, Susan Sanders, and Chris Wolfenbarger
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026 from 12:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave, La Porte, (219) 362-3333. Cremation has been chosen.
