Michael “Mike” W. Wortham, 77, of Huntersville, NC passed away on February 12, 2026 after a courageous 19 month battle against pancreatic cancer.

Mike was born in Henderson, NC on April 6, 1948 to the late Charlie and Lorene Wortham.

Mike was a funny and gentle soul who loved history and sciences. He served 4 years in the Navy as an Aerographers Mate in Adak, Alaska and Fallon, Nevada. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Geology from NC State University. He carried his love of mining and geology into a 30 year career with the N.C. Department of Labor as a Mine Safety and Health Representative teaching miners how to stay safe and save lives in emergency situations. In retirement he enjoyed many hobbies especially working in his yard, traveling around the country exploring historical sites, attending Gem & Mineral Shows, mining in copper mines in upper Michigan and working as a volunteer, tour guide and board member on the USS North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cynthia Wortham; daughter Sara Wortham; son Zach Wortham; daughter-in-law Jessica Wortham; grandsons Miles and Nicholas Wortham; brother John Wortham and sister-in-law Pam Wortham.
