Loyd Wortham, age 87, of
Lewisburg, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at his daughter's residence.
He was born December 5, 1938, in
Lewisburg, Tennessee, to the late James and Maggie Ball Wortham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Elizabeth Wortham; four sisters, Agnes Cheek, Charlene Woodward, Ruth King, and Betty Spray; two brothers, George "Buddy" Wortham and Allen Wortham.
He is survived by his daughter Jana (Tony) Leverette of Chapel Hill; granddaughter Alizabeth Hoffman (Michael Campbell); four nieces, Janet Manire, Pam Davis, Connie Beshears, and Debbie Phelps; nephews, Mike Wortham, Jerry King, Jimmy King, Jackie King, and Ricky King; special friends, Robert (Alice) Crowell, Steve (Kathy) Adams and Steve (Mary) Odum; Paul Roberts and his loving church family and numerous beloved friends and family.
Prior to retirement, he was employed by ICP as an Engineer and was a faithful member of East Commerce Baptist Church. He dedicated 17 years to protecting and serving the nation as a member of the Army National Guard. His military service was a source of pride for both himself and his loved ones, reflecting his sense of duty and responsibility. He proudly served his country with honor and commitment.
Loyd spent countless hours whittling and woodworking, turning simple blocks of wood into works of art. His love for classic automobiles was evident in his adventures touring in his Model A Ford, a symbol of a bygone era brought back to life under his care. Not content with just driving, he also dedicated himself to restoring his prized 1954 Chevy, breathing new life into the vintage vehicle and preserving its legacy. As a devoted fan of classic television, he enjoyed relaxing with his favorite shows, including Gunsmoke and American Pickers. Auctions and antiquing were more than hobbies-they were treasure hunts that fueled his curiosity and appreciation for history. Each item found represented a story, a connection to the past, and a new chapter for his growing collection.
A supporter of UT football, he cheered for the team with enthusiasm, sharing in the camaraderie and excitement of game day. Collecting Case knives was another passion; each blade in his collection a testament to quality and craftsmanship. His keen collector's eye ensured that every piece was chosen with care and pride.
Traveling had always been at the heart of his life philosophy. Whether on the open road in one of his classic cars or exploring new destinations, he found joy in discovering new places, cultures, and-most importantly-making friends along the way. His outgoing nature and genuine interest in others helped him build lasting relationships wherever he went. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
