Michael David Young, 68 passed away on November 13, 2022, after complications from pneumonia.
Michael was born on April 22 1954 in Pasadena Texas to Jim J and Edith Young. Michael graduated from South Houston High School in 1973 and immediately started his first job with Fisk Electric working with his Stepfather Eric Richnow. Michael was a hands-on sort of guy with a knack for all things mechanical. Michael switched jobs often in those early days after High School, but with each job change he improved his mechanical skills. Later he worked for Hertz Equipment Rental, responsible to repair and maintain construction equipment. Through his love of mechanics and natural ability he self-taught and became an excellent mechanic and troubleshooter for large equipment. His stories of equipment rescues were always fun family talk. Mike was later offered a job to work for the Texas Medical Center and again using his own talent and expertise he made his way to position of Fleet Manager that he held until 2016 when he retired. Michael had the gift of gab and never met a stranger; he stayed friends with co-workers and neighbors throughout his life.
In 1973 Michael married his high school sweetheart Sherrill Denise Maxwell and they quickly became an inseparable team. Their first house together was a half-renovated barn on Mikes parents' property where they lived for their first year together and then upgraded to a mobile home on the same property. Always upgrading, always moving, and looking toward the future. Michael loved the outdoors and needed to keep busy. It became normal for them to have some sort of home project, or a side job that they could work together. He could repair any engine, build a finished cabinet, make plumbing repairs, and create or repair just about anything. They went on to have two children Michael David Jr and Lorie Denise.
After his retirement Michael spent time on his favorite hobbies, bowling, wood working, crafting and home projects for themselves, friends and family, cruising and camping became their fun passions.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, his Mom Edith Richnow, his Stepfather Eric Richnow and his Father Jim Young, His son Michael David Jr. who died tragically at 18 years old and niece Christy Young. He is survived by the love of his life Sherrill and their precious daughter Lorie, his brother Jimmy Young and wife Selinda and nephew Teddy Young and wife Tiffany, numerous extended family, and friends.
Michael will be missed so very much on this side of eternity. We will miss his hearty laughter, his unique sense of humor and his kindness. He impacted the lives of many. For those who have trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior we will rejoice with Michael again for eternity to come.
