Richard Thomas Gorom

Richard Thomas Gorom, 54, of Tyler, Texas, passed away on March 13, 2026, in Tyler. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Richard was born on May 4, 1971, in Pasadena, Texas, to Thomas Edward Gorom and Dawn Marie (McDowell) Gorom Kitson. He graduated from South Houston High School in 1991. Richard dedicated 27 years to law enforcement. He began his career with the South Houston Police Department and later served with the Seabrook Police Department, where he eventually retired. During his service he worked as a canine officer, combining his love for policing with his deep affection for dogs. Outside of work, Richard enjoyed surfing, and spending time at the gun range.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Edward Gorom, and his uncle, Robert McDowell.

Richard is survived by his mother, Dawn Gorom Kitson and her husband Glenn; his stepsister, Barbara Urdials; his uncle, Terry McDowell; his aunts, Jen McDowell, Elizabeth McDowell, and Iris McDowell; along with numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Hope PTSD Foundation of America, 9724 Derrington Rd, Houston, Texas 77064.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home family.
