RENSSELAER - Michael J. Zenzen Jr. died January 11, 2026.
He attended RPI, where he earned a BS degree in Physics and a Ph.D. in Philosophy. He taught Philosophy at RPI for over 40 years before retiring.
He was incredibly active; a self-taught mountain biker, downhill and cross-country skier, kayaker, competitive chess player, and recreational hockey player. He lived to be outdoors and challenging himself. He was self-taught because he believed he was his own best instructor and sometimes he was right; except when his wife of 57 years was- which was often, but not conceded. Regardless of how he learned and from whom, he enjoyed the process, and was a voracious reader. Tenacious to the core, he only gave in when he had to, after the long struggle he endured.
He is survived by his daughters, Wendy Zenzen (Kevin) and Alicia Sullivan (Mike). Proud Papa of Matthew, Patrick and Natalie Sullivan, and Alex, Nathaniel and Caroline Daly. He is also survived by his sisters, Maryann Skpowski, and Joan Vroman.
He was predeceased in 2023 by his wife, Rita.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no services.
