Michel Chaanine Jr., 54, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.
A gathering of family and friends to honor Michel’s life will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9th at Munden Funeral Home. The family will hold a private celebration of life service.
Born on October 25, 1971, in Morehead City, NC, Michel spent his life in the community that knew him so well and loved him deeply. To many, Michel wasn’t just a familiar face, he was a friend. His laughter, kindness, and easygoing nature made people feel welcome wherever he went.
Michel and his family were the former owners of Raps Grill & Bar, a place that felt more like home than a business. He took great pride in working alongside his father and brother, and through those years, he formed countless friendships that lasted a lifetime. Later, Michel went on to have a fulfilling career as a manager with a local telecommunications company, where his work ethic and genuine care for people never went unnoticed.
A true NC Tar Heels fan, Michel loved cheering on his team. He also enjoyed playing scratch-off tickets at his favorite local stops, finding joy in the simple pleasures of everyday life.
Above all else, Michel loved his family. His girls were his heart, and nothing meant more to him than spending time with them. His love for his family was constant and unconditional.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Candice Chaanine; daughters, Addison Chaanine and Kennedy Chaanine, both of Morehead City, NC; mother, Leila Chaanine of Morehead City, NC; brother, Johnny Chaanine (Tess) of Morehead City, NC; niece, Eleina Chaanine; nephew, Andrew Chaanine; and numerous loving family members and special friends.
Michel was preceded in death by his father, Michel Tannous Chaanine Sr.
