Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral HomeMichelle Reen'e Meritte, affectionately known to many as "Shelly Boo," passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026. Born on October 13, 1960, in Richmond, Virginia, Michelle lived a life marked by warmth, laughter, and an unyielding spirit of kindness.
Michelle’s roots were deeply embedded in Richmond, where she attended Thomas Jefferson High School. During her formative years, she distinguished herself as a remarkable majorette, a proud accomplishment she carried with joy throughout her life. Known for her fun-loving nature and a contagious smile, Michelle brought light into every room she entered. Her distinctive laugh and great sense of humor made her a cherished companion and a source of joy for all who knew her.
Her professional life was as varied as it was dedicated. Michelle contributed her talents to Public School Transportation for Henrico County, William Byrd Press, and GCA Cleaning Services. Through her work, she demonstrated a steadfast commitment to service and community, reflecting her caring and loving personality.
Michelle was passionate about dancing, crafting Christmas Trees with creativity and care, and engaging others through humorous posts on social media. These hobbies not only showcased her artistic flair but also her desire to connect with others and spread happiness.
She is survived by her beloved daughter Sheena Meritte, and cherished grandchildren Alaya Meritte and Vaughn Bowers Jr. Michelle also leaves behind her sister Beverly Lewis, her brother Bruce Lewis, as well as numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends who hold her in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Edwin T. Lewis Jr. and Yvonne Lewis as well as brother Edwin T. Lewis III.
A celebration of Michelle’s life will be held at Fifth Baptist Church, located at 1415 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23220, on April 11, 2026. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m., with the conclusion of services at 4:00 p.m. This gathering will honor her memory, her warm spirit, and the impact she made on all fortunate enough to know her.
Michelle Reen'e Meritte’s legacy is one of love, joy, and a spirit that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. Her presence was a gift to those around her, her life a testament to the power of laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
