Funeral Mass: Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church Mission, Mandaree

Burial: St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery, Mandaree

Michelle Lee Mitchell (Singing Bird Woman) was born on August 19, 1977, in Poplar, MT, to Robert Mitchell Sr. and Terrie (Claymore) Blake. She was raised in both Mandaree, North Dakota, and Poplar, Montana. She was an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. Michelle earned her GED. She was known by several nicknames, including "Chelle" and "Chell-girl".

Michelle moved to Texas to be closer to her sister, Julie. While in Texas, she received training as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Chell returned to North Dakota a few years later and worked for nursing homes and adult special needs homes in Parshall, Stanley, and Williston, ND. She had a gift for working with the elderly and those in need. She also worked in maintenance for the MHA Nation and Parshall school.

She moved to Billings in 2015 to be closer to her mom. She continued her CNA work with adult special needs group homes. She was helpful and respectful to her elders, often volunteering at events that support them. She enjoyed helping her younger brother, River, whether at school functions or just hanging out.

Chelle was close to her family, and she loved spending time with them. She was always willing to help her mom with whatever she needed, from climbing ladders and planting flowers to decorating for holidays and cooking for events.

She wasn't one to be in large crowds, but she found comfort in reading her Bible and in quiet family activities. She liked nature, enjoyed being outdoors, and loved the color purple. She enjoyed watching movies, both at home and in the theater. Michelle was also a crafter and quilter. She gave many blankets to friends and family.

On Sunday, November 23, 2025, Michelle Mitchell passed away at her home in Billings. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Mitchell Sr.; sister, Dan'elle Mitchell; grandparents, Lillie Mae Smith and Terrence Claymore Sr., Theodore R. Mitchell and Rose Moran Mitchell; great-grandparents, John "Sarge" Smith and Nellie White Hawk Smith; brother/cousin, McKenzie Wounded Face; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Michelle is survived by her mother, Terrie Mae Blake (Gordon); brothers, Bobby Mitchell and River Mitchell; sister, Julia Mitchell-Ricker; special nephew, Jett Mitchell; special niece, Kodi Mitchell; and special aunts, Joleen Fox, Wanda Smith, and Gwen Claymore; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
